Welcome to 100x

Welcome to the 100x site, we're so glad you dropped by for a look. We are a group of people who are passionate about, and committed to, changing the world for Jesus by planting churches which multiply Christlike disciples.

Here are some of the things I think we agree on and want to work on:
1. church planting is the most effective way to evangelise and disciple a city or people group
2. if we don't reach the gifted, entrepreneurial young men of our culture, (the 'cultural creatives) we will fail to significantly reach the whole culture with the gospel. This doesn't mean we don't want to reach everyone, it is just that we recognise the strategic importance of this section of our community
3. to reach those who can reach the rest of the culture we must re-think who we recruit into full-time, vocational ministry. Church planting and full-time ministry need to be seen as the most exciting, rewarding and challenging thing someone could do with their lives. The best and the brightest entrepreneurial leaders of our culture need to do this rather than investment banking, law, medicine or business
4. we need to build a movement which recruits, assesses, releases, and supports church planters
5. we need to work together to help bring about institutional change in the Anglican church so that it generates a whole new move of church plants (or fresh expressions of ministry)
6. we need to work together with our training institutions to re-engineer our theological education. This will mean that we evaluate the success of a training institution by whether it produces effective, productive church planters and innovative leaders
7. we need to live out of a paradigm of influence rather than control
8. we need to be motivated and led by our mission rather than our ego needs for recognition, control, status or power.
9. We need to take seriously the idea that "there is no limit to the good we can do if we don't mind who gets the credit".
10. We need to be wholeheartedly committed to the authority of the bible and the importance of sound doctrine. The gospel needs to be front and centre of our thinking and practice
11. We need to be continually renewed, empowered and led by the Holy Spirit, in theory and in practice!
12. We need to develop ministry philosophies and practices that are culturally contextualised
13. We need to work together in a gift-oriented, colloborative and interdependant way, building a community of learning and best practice characterised by generosity, truth-telling and fruitfulness

The multiplier effect

Have just spent the week in Cape Town, visiting my family. I stayed with an old friend who is the ceo of a listed funds management company. God used me in significant ways in his life while we were at medical school, in fact I spent a lot of time leading him to Christ and discipling him. Many other people have invested in him as well, so I don't in any way want to overstate my role in all of this. However, God has used my time with him to help raise up a man who is now a significant business lea… Continue

Evangelising the city of Melbourne

Attending synod (albeit only for one evening) highlighted some things for me:
1. While they all run around squabbling about how to manage the present mess, there is a demographic time-bomb about to blow the thing apart, and no-one actually seems to notice. No discussion or thought seems to be given to what we need to do to ensure the viability, let alone growth, of the diocese in 20 ro 30 years time.
2. Following on from this, it struck me that there are only 250 Anglican churches in the city. E… Continue
